These well known Canadian musicians and actors say no to eating animals.
Vegetarian and vegan diets are common among movie stars and musicians, along with many other trendy diet programs. Hollywood isn’t the only place full of non-meat-eaters though. It seems that several high profile Canadians enjoy vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. Alanis MorissetteThe Canadian singer shared the story of her recent weight loss and discussed the vegan diet that helped her achieve it with OK! Magazine in January of 2009. She said she felt unhealthy before starting on the diet she learned about through Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s book Eat to Live. Since adopting the plan she has lost 20 pounds and feels younger, lighter and healthier. Morissette claims she has much more energy and that the aches, pains and allergies she experienced before no longer bother her. Bryan AdamsBryan Adams became a vegetarian in 1989 and his diet gradually changed to vegan over the years. He says his choice to avoid eating animals has helped him stay slim, have more energy and cure his allergies. In an interview with Vegan and Vegetarian Essex, Adams credits a book called “Fit for Life” with being a driving force behind his decision to go vegan. Adams favourite argument for vegetarianism is the simple expression, “If you love animals, don’t eat them.” Pamela AndersonAccording to ShapeFit.com, Pamela Anderson became a vegetarian as a teenager after she witnessed her father cleaning a deer he had killed. She has been a strict vegetarian, animal activist and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) supporter ever since. Anderson has participated in anti-fur, anti-KFC (a notorious animal rights abuser) and pro-vegetarianism campaigns. In 1999, she was awarded the first Linda McCartney Memorial Award for animal rights protectors. VegetarianStar.com reported in early 2009 that Anderson told Britain’s Elle Magazine that she was giving vegan cooking a try. Shania TwainIn 2001, Shania Twain became the first ever celebrity named Sexiest Vegetarian Alive by PETA.org. PETA reported that she hadn’t eaten meat, fish or eggs since she married her then husband Mutt Lange, a music producer and longtime vegetarian, in 1993. Though many sources report that she is a vegetarian, she once described herself as a vegan in Hello! Magazine and TV Guide quoted her as saying she eats, “Nothing that had to die.” Setting An ExampleVegetarianism is becoming more and more popular with people around the world. Perhaps these famous figures can set an example for those who want to stop eating meat for health or moral reasons.
